WOODS CANYON LAKE, Ariz. - As we pulled into the parking lot at Woods Canyon Lake, an eagle was staring down at us. This hiker has seen several eagles in northern Arizona, but not usually this close or at a tree in a parking lot with loads of people.

Navajo WWII Alamo Scout receives medals after 69-year wait
MOENKOPI, Ariz. - It was long overdue but still a memorable day for the family of Ssgt. Byron L. Tsingine Sr., originally from Coppermine, Arizona.

Navajo Nation President Ben Shelly, Congresswoman Ann Kirkpatrick, Senator Albert Hale, Navajo-Hopi Honor Riders and Eunice Begay Tsingine with the Western Agency Veterans Office honored Tsingine at the Western Navajo Tuba City Veterans Center for his service as an Alamo Scout during World War II.

PAYSON, Ariz. - Ferns are plentiful on northern Arizona trails, but this hiker has never seen a stand of ferns to equal the ferns at the beginning of the Barbershop Trail. These ferns look like the type of overgrown green forest where Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz" could get lost.
