"Hip Historian" Marshall Shore gave a program on the "Mother Road" Jan. 24 at the Hubbell building in Winslow. The National Endowment for the Arts, Arizona State Library and Friends of the Winslow Public Library sponsored the entertaining lecture that included images, Route 66 trivia and music. January is Big Read Month in Arizona which encourages reading skills and vocabulary.

Shore dressed in eye popping Route 66 related attire and dispensed Arizona facts and history snapshots mainly covering the years 1928 to the present. Shore covered music inspired by Route 66, movies and TV programs related to Route 66, John Steinbeck's road trip inspiring the "Grapes of Wrath," how camels were introduced into the U.S. via Arizona, an 1850's steam powered bicycle invented in Arizona, the first roadmap, Frank Lloyd Wright, Fred Harvey, Joseph City as the oldest Mormon Settlement and Two Guns and Twin Arrows history.
